State Premier Lieberknecht visiting the Bauerfeind service station, 21.02.2010
"Business meets Sport" was the theme of the Thuringian evening in the German House in Vancouver. State Premier of Thuringia, Christine Lieberknecht, visited the Bauerfeind service station along with silver medalist David Möller. Thanks to compression stockings, exhausted members of the Thuringian business delegation were still able to enjoy an "a-ha" experience in the late evening.
"We are proud of our Thuringian businesses," said Christine Lieberknecht late Saturday evening after a tour of the German House in Vancouver. Thuringia's state premier had learnt more about the Olympics commitments of Bauerfeind AG at its orthotic service station. The Zeulenroda-based company first became an official supplier to the German Olympic team in 2001, since when it has always been on site at the Games. What's new in Canada is that the supports and orthoses from Thuringia are now available for the benefit of all participating athletes in Vancouver and Whistler. Bauerfeind orthotists are on hand in the polyclinics of the Olympic villages to fit products on the injured Olympians and ensure they can remain in the competition.
Luger David Möller gave the state premier an insight into the medical compression stockings that are becoming increasingly popular with athletes. The silver medalist from Sonneberg wears compression stockings not just for long-haul flights and car journeys, but also in competition. At this point some of the men who were accompanying Christine Lieberknecht on her foreign trip pricked up their ears. The state premier had come to the Olympic city via Toronto with a Thuringian business delegation. Political and economic discussions have been strictly the order of the day since Thursday. Little wonder, then, that all that lengthy sitting, walking and standing, car journeys and domestic flights were getting to the bones of some delegation members - or to their legs, to be more precise. The Thuringian businessmen put themselves confidently into the hands of the Bauerfeind support team and left the service station with an "a-ha" experience as the compression - triggered by the stockings - brought immediate and tangible relief to tired legs. It was with a smile on their faces that the members of the delegation proceeded to the next item on the agenda: the "German Fan Fest – powered by Thuringia".
